Atlantic Sunset

Carreço

Details

Montedor is a village situated in the parish of Carreço, in the municipality of Viana do Castelo, where a lighthouse was built in 1910 on a hill rising to a height of 75 metres.

This place stands out for its connection with the Atlantic landscape, combining coastline, granite formations and a rural setting characteristic of northern Portugal. Its location, on a small peninsula and at a slight elevation, offers sweeping views of the coastline and allows visitors to enjoy particularly late sunsets over mainland Portugal during spring and summer.

The Portuguese Coastal Way to Santiago de Compostela passes through this area, running close to the parish church. However, some pilgrims and visitors opt for routes closer to the ocean, drawn by direct contact with the sea and the uniqueness of the landscape.
