ATLANTIC_SUNSET brings together researchers from the Atlantic Area (Spain, France, Ireland, and Portugal), from Ireland to the Canary Islands, to contribute to the valorisation of the sunset in Western Europe and other phenomena associated with the Sun.
The main objective is to promote the western coast as a tourist resource, helping to offset emigration and diversify economies, taking into account the carrying capacity and unique nature of each landscape and community.
The project will identify some of the best places to watch the sunset, conduct collaborative research with local communities, tourism stakeholders, and other development agents, and produce a tourism plan to be marketed to potential visitors.
In summary, the project will offer a new opportunity for joint territorial development linked to the sunset, highlighting the Atlantic coast of Western Europe as an alternative economic development tool to beach-based tourism, considering temporal and spatial complementarity, social inclusion, and social innovation.
